When Hailey Gilbertson first joined Unified Work as a paid intern in October 2024, she stepped into a new world of opportunity, challenge, and growth. What began as a connection through her Bethel University BUILD Program supervisor, Jaran Roste, has become a pivotal chapter in her personal and professional journey.

“It has been our pleasure to have Hailey interning at Unified Work. Students nearing graduation can gain skills and valuable experience through their internships. Hailey has a bright future in front of her and we hope to keep in touch with her after she graduates and to continue our partnership with BUILD.” — Jeanne Eglinton

The BUILD Program at Bethel University is a two-year, on-campus Comprehensive Transition and Postsecondary (CTP) program designed for students with intellectual disabilities. Students like Hailey experience a supportive Christian environment, career-focused curriculum, dynamic instruction, and independent campus living—all geared toward earning an Applied Skills Certificate and preparing for a fulfilling life beyond graduation.

Juggling multiple commitments with grace, Hailey not only interned at Unified Work but also held a part-time job at Walgreens in Mahtomedi, Minnesota, where she kept store shelves stocked and organized. During her internship, she embraced new technology and skills—gaining hands-on experience in computer software, setting up virtual reality headsets, and preparing STEM learning boxes for Unified Work’s innovative experiential learning programs.

When asked about her experience, Hailey reflected on both her growth and the advice she would give future interns: “Don’t be afraid to try something new. If the task seems hard, ask questions—you’ll get the hang of it.” She emphasized the importance of being open to learning and asking for help when needed. Her favorite part? Getting to work on a variety of engaging projects that challenged her in the best ways.

Beyond the workplace, Hailey is an avid Minnesota Wild fan and a hockey enthusiast. Her hobbies include solving 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzles, creating art, and hitting the bowling lanes. After graduation, she’s setting her sights on a career in data entry—a path she’s now more prepared for thanks to her hands-on internship experience.

Hailey’s journey is a shining example of what’s possible when opportunity meets support, curiosity, and hard work. At Unified Work, we’re proud to empower individuals like Hailey and help them achieve their highest economic potential through inclusive employment experiences.
