About Unified Work

We are Building the Pathway to Employment for people with disabilities and other barriers to employment. One brick, one learning experience, at a time.

Who We Are

Unified Work, powered by MDI, helps people with disabilities and other barriers to employment build the skills, confidence, and support they need to succeed at work by creating and delivering learning experiences designed to move people along the pathway towards employment.

We also partner with employers that want to build stronger, more inclusive workplaces. Our work connects both sides of the employment experience: preparing job seekers for real opportunities and helping employers create environments where people can contribute and grow.

Our History

Unified Work grew out of MDI’s long-standing mission to create meaningful employment opportunities for people with disabilities. What began as a small internal training effort in 2016 has grown into a broader workforce development program serving learners, employees, and employers across Minnesota and beyond.

Early classes focused on core workplace skills like communication, leadership, problem-solving, and customer service. As demand grew, the program expanded into additional career skills training, virtual classes, mobile learning options, and employer education.

Today, Unified Work continues to evolve with the needs of learners and workplaces. The goal is simple: help more people access meaningful work and help more employers build teams where every person has the chance to succeed.

How We Live Out Our Mission

Unified Work is built for real-world employment, not theory. Our programs help learners build practical skills they can use on the job, while giving employers the tools to support inclusive hiring, retention, and workplace success. We understand both sides of the workforce equation. That is what makes our approach different.

Practical Skills for Real Work

Our training focuses on practical skills that matter at work. Learners build confidence in problem-solving, communication, self-advocacy, teamwork, and career readiness. Every program is designed to help people move toward meaningful employment.

Meeting You Where You Are

Unified Work offers flexible training options, including in-person classes, virtual sessions, mobile programming, and employer-focused education. This makes it easier for individuals, teams, and communities to access the support they need.

Tailored Support for Your Goals

We work with learners, families, employers, and community partners to understand what success looks like in each situation, building support around that goal. The result is a more practical, personal, and effective path toward inclusive employment.
